CLIMATE CHANGE AND FOOD SECURITY
As we read in Genesis, God creates the world as a beautiful garden,
a sacred gift.
God gives to “everything that has the breath of life” —
humans and animals alike — trees and plants, seeds and fruit, as
food.
There is enough for all in this complex and delicate web of life.
God calls us to share and steward the earth’s resources in such a way
as to ensure that all are able to receive what God has given as a gift.
Unfortunately, human-caused climate change is altering creation’s
balance and is threatening food security for many.
Changes in
weather patterns are leading to droughts in some regions and
floods in others.
Rising sea levels are leading to loss of productive
land.
These effects on food production will be felt in every part of
the globe.
