Worship with the World: WATER Introduction: Church World Service supports impoverished peoples’ aspirations for a better life in over 80 countries. The deepest hopes of those women and men find powerful expression in their prayers for justice, peace, community. Worship with the World gathers a sampling of their voices that we might join with them in prayerful communion and common commitment. Use/adapt the prayers, bulletin insert, and suggested service for your personal reflection, meetings, or congregational worship. WATER: All life springs from water. Two million people — most of them children — die each year from waterborne disease. Thus, water-related projects and policies are fundamental concerns in CWS efforts to build healthy, sustainable communities. Water is also, of course, a profound symbol within our scriptural and litur

DDRESS CLIMATE CHANGE USING EPHESIANS 2:11-22 A world in which relationships are marked by freedom, justice and peace is at the heart of the Bible’s vision. In Ephesians 2:11-22, Jesus breaks down the separating wall, reconciling those near and far. Today, this reconciliation and peace is broken because the U. S. and other affluent, industrialized nations have generated the vast majority of the harmful carbon emissions that cause climate change. World Environment Day is an opportunity to act to protect the diversity of species in our intricate web of creation – vital to human life and food security – by addressing

Guest Editorial Climate Justice Peggy M. Shepard and Cecil Corbin-Mark This special issue edited by West Harlem Environmental Action (WE ACT ) highlights climate justice: The need to develop studies, policies, and interventions that address the ethical and human rights dimensions of global warming, the disproportionate burden of legacy pollution, the unsustainable rise in energy costs for lowincome families, and the impacts of energy extraction, refining, and manufacturing on vulnerable communities. Climate change is the most significant social and political challenge of the 21st century. Carbon dioxide emissions caused by human activity are and will continue to impact the earth’s natural systems through global warming and sea level rise for generations to come. Climate researchers report that vulnerable communities, even in the most prosperous nations, will be the first and worst hit. In this country, the most impacted areas will be communities-of-color, Indigenous Peoples, and low-
