Will We Pass Him By?

I saw Jesus the other day.
I went to get a sandwich during my lunch
hour, and Jesus was standing in front of the
sandwichshop.He
was homeless. He
wore layer upon
layer of filthy
clothes, and his
hair hung in long,
dusty dreadlocks.
He stared at the
passers-by with
a haunting gaze,
sayingnothing.He
lookedsad,weary,
and hungry.
I glanced at him, but quickly looked away.
I was a woman by myself, in a hurry, and on a
budget. The man didn’t fit in with the rest of
the crowd in the riverfront neighborhood, and
I didn’t want to get involved. I simply wanted
to buy my sandwich, return to my office, and
not be bothered.
Then the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart. He
asked a gentle, yet anguished question: “Will
you pass Me by?”
Conviction gripped my heart when I heard
those poignant words. I turned around and
walked back to where the man was standing.
I was terrified and embarrassed, but I did not
want to disappointmyLord.I
