Art skill/Medium: Sand Art Basic Instructions for class use: Students will be given jars of different colored sands, glue, q-tips, yarn, and a tray to dump sand in. Students will use the glue and yarn to outline whatever image they wish to create (or they may first sketch in pencil and go over the pencil markings with yarn). After the outline is created, the kids will cover the empty spaces with glue and pour the colored sands into each area to color it in and create the final image. Possible classroom applications (Sci/SS): 1. Students can use the sand art to create landscapes when studying the environment and different habitats. 2. Students can use sand art to create geode images and show the layers and rock formations. 3. Students can create maps with different land masses labeled about geographical areas that are being studied in their current social studies unit.
