AUBURN BASEBALL IN THE MAJORS A Tiger baseball player has been drafted by a major league team every year since 1975, with 50 former Auburn Tigers making it to the major leagues. Here's a look at five Tigers throughout Auburn history who dominated the game in the SEC and in the big leagues. BILLY HITCHCOCK - 1942 An Auburn grad, he joined the Detroit Tigers in 1942. He was a part-time starter and pinch- hitter during his nine years in the MLB. He went on to enjoy success as a manager, scout and executive. He was president of the Southern League for 10 years and Auburn's baseball field is named for him. BO JACKSON - 1986 One of the greatest all-around athletes in histroy, Jackson starred in baseball, football and track at Auburn in the early 1980s. He batted .401 with 17 home runs and 43 RBIs as a junior, and he was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in 1986. Jackson became a big league superstar by 1989 with 32 home runs that year.
