In the works of Turgenev a free person is consistently em- bodied in the image of a traveler, a wanderer with no family. 'Conversation' can be considered as a kind of a preamble to Fathers and Sons also because this work was the first in which so crucial for Turgenev topic – the God – Uni- verse – Man – was touched upon.
