Historical Overview For many years in Colombia some language policies have emerged, such as the English syllabus, the COFE Project, the General Law of Education, and the Curricular Guidelines for Foreign languages, these reforms or policies wanted to promote the use and teaching English as a foreign language that enables communication based on international standards. However, these linguistic policies have not had a big impact in Colombia because there is not a preparation and contextualization according to the needs of our society, for this reason there is a big disinterest to study English; these linguistic policies do not take into account Colombian needs, according to (Truscott,2006; Usma,2009) these reforms or language policies respond greatly to the political agendas and globalization process that our country has undertaken in the last decades.
