The University Star Moves to Online Only Publication By Chelsea Kubenka SAN MARCOS – Texas State University’s director of student publications announced Oct. 12, The University Star will be discontinuing its print edition and will only publish online. Richard Parker, director of student publications had a meeting with President Denise Trauth and Provost Eugene J. Bourgeois II to discuss their decision that The Unversity Star would have to run all of its editions through the provost before publishing. This type of restriction is taking away rights from the paper and the students running the paper, Parker said. Parker did not agree with the decision and decided the university newspaper will end all of its print editions and move completely online. “It’s a violation of the First Amendment,” said Richard Parker, “and our result is to try and fight this.”
