Document as of June 28, 2012 PRESIDENCY’S NOTE ON ENGAGEMENT WITH MYANMAR/BURMA The CD welcomes the recent developments in Myanmar/Burma and the steps its Government has taken towards democracy. The CD is determined to play its role in supporting the efforts of the Burmese people in their struggle for democracy. As Myanmar/Burma reopens to the rest of the world and its democratic forces headed by Aung San Suu Kyi takes the stand of engagement and parliamentary opposition, the CD should follow the suit and explore what support governments should be encouraged to give to the democratic transition in Burma and how the CD can assist in and be supportive of this transition.
