The largest supermoon in 70 years Nov 2, 2016|Astronomy Summary: This November the moon is closer to Earth much more than usual, an event that was not repeated since January 1948 and will we see the much bigger star than its usual. This phenomenon takes place on the eve of November 14 and will see the moon 14% larger and 30% brighter than a normal moon. Text commentary: Why it happen this phenomenon? Well, the origin of this rarity thanks to the elliptical orbit of the moon explained. Our satellite will be very near its closest point to Earth orbit, 48,280 km closer than when it is at the farthest point, called apogee. In this way, our satellite is much closer to the Earth and usually receives sunlight directly that reflects and makes it look brighter and larger in our sky. This is known as Supermoon, or more technically, perigee Moon. However, superlunas are relatively frequent. The last took place on October 16 and after the great superluna this November 14, we will have another on 1
