Kathie Bird, I Miss My Home, 2016, acrylic on canvas, 30 x 24” Kathie Bird: In the Margins Until December 23rd In the Margins is a visual encounter with Saskatchewan people who consider themselves to be social outsiders. Social interactions are key in the development of a human being. The feeling of being marginalized can reside in a wide array of individuals and populations - yet when seen in public they may often be ignored or shunned by others. Their personal stories remain hidden and lives remain isolated. In the Margins introduces viewers to some of those individuals. This exhibition is a culmination of Kathie Bird's artistic experience combined with her propensity for people watching. In 2016 and 2017, Bird was the first Artist in Residence at the University of Regina Faculty of Social Work. She collaborated with Social Work practicum students to create portraits of people who self-identified as socially marginalized. Part of this process included interviewing them; each piece in
