ENGLAND’S STAFFORD GENERAL HOSPITAL INCIDENT MARCH 29TH , 2006 OVERVIEW On Wednesday, March 29, 2006, the medical staff at Stafford General Hospital in central England notified authorities of four men acting suspiciously while visiting a fifth man who raised concern over the cause of his injuries. In addition to the odd behavior, the men (aged 24 to 30) aroused suspicion because the patient’s symptoms could have been related to explosives. Concern was further raised because Queen Elizabeth was scheduled to visit Stafford two days later. In response to the hospital’s notification, armed police arrived at the hospital and surrounded the accident and emergency unit. The four visitors attempted to flee but were caught outside the main entrance. Authorities detained the four visitors under the United Kingdom’s 2000 Terrorism Act and kept the patient under guard.
