Mahatma Gandhi He was born on 2nd October 1869 in Porbandar in British India. He studied law in London but in 1893 moved to South Africa, where he opposed discrimination against Indians. He became one of the greatest political and spiritual leaders of his time. He fought for the Indians' independence very hard. Because of him India was freed from Britain in 1947. He was a renowned fakir. He later was assassinated by a Hindu fanatic when he tried to stop the Hindu-Muslim conflict on 30 January 1948. Walid
