CONTEMPORARY THEORETICAL PERSPECTIVES TEACHING AC ENGLISH: THE EARLY YEARS: F O C U S O N R E A D I N G Teaching requires the use of multiple resources to ensure students are provided with effective and life-long learning. English is an important skill to learn for young children as it affects all aspects of their lives in different environments. For example: cultural, social & political (Fellowes & Oakley, 2014). The Australian Curriculum (AC) splits English into three key compentancies: Language – knowing the English Language Literature – understanding, responding, and creating texts Literacy – expanding the vocabulary and English skills (Fellowes & Oakley, 2014).
