THE 75¢ BROWNFIELD NEWS (USPS 067-880) 067--8 88 www.brownfieldonline.com 10 PAGES - PLUS SUPPLEMENT VOLUME 111, NO 01 WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 3, 2018 News Drought Year’s conditions baby worsen as arrives new year begins According to the latest Texas Drought Monitor Map, Terry County is totally within the “Moderate Drought” category. According to the South Plains Underground Water Conservation District records, the last rainfall of any us- able amount was in mid-November and it was a spotty rain that only hit a few areas. The 15 day forecast doesn’t offer much hope for precipitation. While the county was in the throes of stripping cotton, many mornings were damp and producers were unable to get into the field until late in the day, but still none of that produced any measurable precipitation. According to the drought monitoring site, abnormal dryness or drought conditions are currently affecting ap- proximately 18,659,000 people in Texas, which is about 52% of the state’s population.
