RELATIONSHIPThe between SCALE MATTERS Pixels, Points & Picas Pixels- Pixel = “Picture Element” - The smallest component of an image or picture on a screen. - Images are made up of hundreds or thousands of pixels, which are basically small colored dots. - Pixels are relative to an image’s resolution. - DPI = Dots per inch - Print graphics should be set to 300 dpi, web graphics to 72 dpi to get the highest resolution Points- a linear unit just like miles, meters, feet or inches - commonly used to measure the size of type, but capable of measuring any length - 1 point = 1/72 of an inch - Therefore, 72 point type is precisely 1 inch tall. - 1 point = 1 pixel on a 72 ppi display - One point does not always equal one pixel.
