GHEORGHE ATANASIU ( 1893-1972) FACTS ABOUT HIS LIFE GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS He was born on 12th December 1893 in Iasi and he died on 4 th April 1972 at 79 years in Bucharest. Occupation: PHYSICIST STEMbyART George Atanasiu created infrared monochromator and optical method for determining the heat of dissociation He graduated from Faculty of Bucharest, after which he specialized in France, where he worked for four years after graduation. He obtained his doctorate from Sorbonne in 1924. He returned home in 1925 and he was assistant at Electrotechnical Institute and associate professor at the University of Cluj in 1926. In 1937 he was appointed professor at the University of Cluj and in 1940 at the University in Bucharest. He was the initiator of the geophysical research and in 1953 he founded the department of Geophysics. He subsequently worked at the Institute of Physics and the Geophysical Research centre of the Romanian Academy in Bucharest. He led the way in many areas of Romanian physics
