Rosenwald questions. Young athletes have always participated in athletic competition dating back to before the original Olympic games in 776 BC. Such competition helped them determine their status and rank amongst their peers. But today, many kids play solely for their parents' attention and acceptance. This reason for competition leads one to ask the question, "When athletes engage on the field of competition, and more so to please their parents, what is their real motivation for playing the game?" Persistent parental pressure plays a huge role in adding unnecessary stress to the adolescent athletes involved in youth sports.
