Grine !1 Mason Grine Akhenaten: the Right King at the Right Time Both Akhenaten and the Amarna Revolution have an array of connotations. For some, Akhenaten is the first “individual” in history. His revolutionary actions also cause people to believe he was a forerunner of Christ as a quasi-monotheist before the Hebrews. Considered anywhere from a “Great Mystic” to a “Reformer,” Akhenaten is one of the most well known pharaohs of Egypt. In my paper, I argue Akhenaten and his revolution were not isolated1 phenomena, but rather a build up of social, political, and familial issues in the Egyptian empire. Contrary to the lofty views stated above, it is inaccurate to suggest anything before there is data that causes us to suggest something. It is “ill advised to read profound meaning into flimsy evidence.”2 To avoid distortion, those who have studied Akhenaten extensively returned to the original sources in search of hieroglyphic inscriptions and the archaeological remains in the 18th dynast
