LAWSUIT TO PROTECT INITIATIVES
A petition to ensure that Attorney Generals of various states represent the states in
good faith has been filed in the United States Supreme Court (case #14-315). This is
practically an appeal of California Supreme Court failure to carry out its duty to “jealously
guard” our initiative powers in case #S218146. The United States Supreme Court has been
asked to decide if associations of individuals forming states retain their fundamental rights
of access to the courts and free speech. This is a similar issue to how the association of
individuals forming corporations retain their free speech rights as the United States
Supreme Court decided in Citizens United v. Federal Election Com'n. A case is also made
that weakening the power of our vote and initiative powers should be considered illegal voter
suppression.
