Dr. Susan Glisson said Ole Miss has come a long way over
the years, and it takes a team to keep things moving forward. "Nobody today created racism. It's a
process that's evolved over the last 500 years," Glisson said. Ole Miss has not had the best racial
reputation. Just this year, three students hung a noose around the statue of the university's first
black student, James Meredith. "It ain't about what color you are or none of that, it's about who
you are," University of Mississippi employee Corey Carr said. All week, the university has held
different events to promote racial equality. The highlight was officially renaming Coliseum Drive to
Chucky Mullins Drive. Mullins was a black football player who was paralyzed after he was injured
in a game. Mullins was an inspiration and emotional leader of the team until he died in 1991.
