Univision Communications' president, offered his engineers with difficult: can they figure out the
best way to broadcast its football broadcasts in to American houses faster than its English-language
competitors?
About a half-million bucks in new technology afterwards, the challenge was met -- broadcasts that
were Univision's beat beat ESPN's and ABC's, if only by a matter of seconds.
Telemundo outbid Univision for the 2022 and 2018 World Cups, breaking the SpanishLanguage
Univision has held over the tournament since 1972. Telemundo has also been investing heavily in its
telenovelas. Its largest hit at the moment, "El Senor p los Cielos" ("The Master of the Skies"), about
a Mexican drug lord, sometimes brings bigger audiences than Univision's fighting drama in exactly
