Unless you have a family member or very close friend who is a baker by profession, chances
are that at some point in time, you have been disappointed with a cake you have bought
from your baker and paid a hefty price for. To name a few examples, there is a local bakery
in my small home town where I have bought small cakes at on several occasions, every time
thinking this will be amazing, unfortunally looks and pretty decorations do not make-up for
lack of taste or overpowering cocoa powder clumped throughout the batter. At baker no.2 I
ordered a 21st
birthday cake (thin layer of vanilla sponge with a type of berry pudding on
top) only to find once I had cut it that I had received a vanilla sponge cake with a berry coulis
in between two layers. Then my wedding cake… the vanilla cupcakes ( there were also
chocolate and carrot) were supposed to have citrus rind mixed throughout the batter,
instead I bite into a cold,
