Information
The Epa's last policy that needs coal- and oil-fired nuclear power plant to lower mercury and
other hazardous exhausts was authorized December 21, 2011, in Washington, D.C.
Organizations that stand for fishermens, especially Trout Unlimited, were pleased by the choice.
Numerous of the coal-fired nuclear power plant in the eastern United States are discovered in the
Ohio River Valley, and their exhausts waft South on air bits and choose the Appalachian Blue
Ridge, consisting of trout and trees streams in Virginia, North Carolina and northern Georgia.
Over years, those discharges essentially turn freestone (limestone-base) streams acidic, no longer
suitable for aquatic life that trout should need to make it through and consume. The discharges
do not do much for drinking water either, plus mercury from power-plant exhausts can develop
in fish, making them risky to consume.
