What is the difference between a distribution and a distributive share? How do these affect
the owner’s K-1 and individual taxes?
Actual distribution is the amount of money withdrawal from the company. A distributive
share is the portion of taxable income and nontaxable income allocated to the partner based
off the partnership agreement. Or if no partnership agreement in place than the percentage or
amount is determined by the partner’s interest in the company.
The owner’s K-1 will have the distributive share as the amount to be claimed on their
personal tax return. The distributive share may be different than the actual distribution.
