The company’s LNG barges would transport LNG from suppliers to coastal storage units, and the major ports on the US Gulf Coast, as well as directly bunkering large ships with LNG-as-fuel. “We are planning LNG fuelling infrastructure that operates much the way oil bunkering does today, with LNG fuel depots in the major ports. From the fuel depots, LNG bunker barges will load fuel for delivery to the large ships at port,“ said President and CEO of LNG America, Keith Meyer. The distribution network will be able to supply LNG for trucks, ISO tanks and high-horsepower machinery, such as the machinery used in shale gas production. “Studies found that availability LNG was a key factor in the decision of ship owners to convert to LNG, also that the market would be slow to develop but would grow steadily as the world’s major ports add LNG bunkering infrastructure,“ said Meyer.
