Levelised cost of electricity (LCOE) for solar power has fallen 42% in the past three years, according to Wood Mackenzie, and is forecast to reach $48/MWh in 2020 – beating all fossil fuel competitors. ybrid solar PV-plus-energy storage is already preferable over H gas peaking power plants on a levelised cost of electricity (LCOE) basis (see graph). According to Wood Mackenzie analysis, unsubsidized utility-scale LCOE for a 4-hour lithium-ion solar-plus-storage will be competitive against gas peakers in all the National Electricity Market (NEM) states of Australia in 2023. Soon, solar will also outcompete coal in Australia as domestic gas prices rise amid growing LNG export and more stringent environmen
