Sir James Dyson plans to make affordable household robots - Telegraph
This week he is to announce a ?5 million investment in a new roboticslaboratory at Imperial College
London which will work on creating a visionsystem, known as simultaneous localisation and mapping
systems, which willallow robots to see and interact with their environment in the same way
thathumans do.
Once robots are able to create a three-dimensional map of their environmentthey will be able to
carry out tasks in the same way as humans, it is said, and artificial intelligence means that they will
be almost autonomous.
"You will send up a robot to clean windows. It will know where it isgoing. It will know how to clean
the windows. And it will know when it isfinished," Sir James said.
More than a decade ago Sir James, who employs more than 2,000 scientists andengineers,
successfully created a robotic vacuum cleaner, the DC06, butnever released it as it was too
