What to do when someone dies.
When someone dies there are many decisions and arrangements to be made. Unfortunately, these
have to be undertaken at a time of great personal distress. The experienced staffs of W. Uden &
Sons are available 24 hours a day to advise and support you. The following information is provided
to assist you at this difficult time.
If the death occurs in the hospital, the staff will contact the next of kin and a member of the
Bereavement Team will arrange for you to collect any personal effects, together with the ‘Medical
Cause of Death Certificate’. They will also inform you of the procedure for registering the death. The
hospital will keep the deceased in their mortuary until you have made arrangements with W. Uden
& Sons to transfer your loved one to our nearest private Chapel of Rest.
If the death occurs at home or nursing home and was expected the deceased’s GP will issue the
medical certificate and a formal notice that tells you how to register the death. Wh
