century, is considered to be one
of the founders of modern psychological thrillers. He wrote many horror stories and is
best known for his mystery and gruesome tales. Poe came up with a new genre that some
would consider weird, grotesque, and even gross. Some elements that the author uses in
his famous texts are murder, death, madness, melancholy and torture. Poe often creates an
atmosphere of suspense in his work. In ‘‘The Tell-Tale Heart’’, the writer uses repetition
and the first-person narrative to set the mood.
