Ectopic Pregnancy
In a normal pregnancy, the fertilized egg implants to the lining of the uterus whereas in ectopic
pregnancy, the fertilized egg or the embryo attaches itself somewhere outside the uterus. In most
cases, implantation occurs in one of the fallopian tubes, which carry eggs from the ovaries to the
uterus, and is known as Tubal Pregnancy. Apart from this, implantation can also occur in the
ovaries, abdomen and cervix.It is a complication of pregnancy that is not viable; except for some
rare exceptions. It is dangerous for the mother as internal hemorrhaging can cause heavy
bleeding which is either not healthy or can be life-threatening.
Types of Ectopic pregnancy are:
1. Tubal Pregnancy: Most ectopic pregnancies are tubal pregnancies and it occurs when the
fertilized egg implants in the fallopian tubes.
2. Non-Tubal Ectopic Pregnancy: Around two percent of the ectopic pregnancies occur in
