Loyalists forces try to retake the town of Marsa Al Brega, an important export hub for Libyan oil.
This city, beside its logistic value for the two opposing sides, is a major bottleneck on the road to Benghazi (capital of
the Cyrenaica region, as well as the rebels of the National Transitional Council).
Fallen into the hands of the Chebabs
fighters less than a fortnight, Marsa Al Brega is again the theatre of military confrontation.
March 13, 2011, following a
violent artillery barrage, the AFVs of the Kataeb al-Amn, the Gaddafi’s army, move into the attack.
The fights are hard
and bitter and will continue for the night.
March 14, in the morning, the rebels still control some parts of the town but
the following day under pressure, they decided to retreat to Ajdabiya.
