In Britain people’s attitudes to the slave trade
varied. Whilst you must remember that the slave
trade and slavery was permitted under English law
for over 300 years, gradually from the 1750’s
onwards more people began to be critical of it for a
number of reasons. Their protests along with the
rebellions of slaves and the declining profitability of
the slave trade led to the abolition of the trade in
1807, and the abolition of slavery itself in 1833.
