The Shorthorn staff
Tuesday night marked the
end of an era with some student leaders leaving office and
a beginning for others.
The 2010 Leadership Recognition Ceremony presented
students with leadership accolades and saluted the service
of some that will graduate in
May.
Students across campus received awards in the Bluebonnet Ballroom.
Jill Darden, former Ms.
UTA and 1994 Matthew E.
Brown award recipient which
was recently renamed in honor
of Wayne Duke, opened the
night with a recalling of her
university experience.
“I remember sitting in this
very room in 1994,” she said
while holding up her original
award.
“When Dr.
Stephanie
Brown asked me to speak, it
was an easy yes.
”
She spoke of how being
a student leader helped her
manage later in life.
She compared having classes and student leadership activities to
having a job and kids.
Darden
also encouraged current students to work for the future,
and to join the UT Arlington
Fort Worth Alumni Chapter.
