Two Tier One-related bills
passed in the Texas Senate this
week, putting the university further on the path to becoming a
national research institution.
In addition, a passed House bill
is waiting to be taken up by a Senate committee.
House and Senate
leadership can then decide how
and if the bills should be consolidated.
From there, the Senate bills
could go either to the House Committee on Higher Education or
straight to a conference committee
if the leadership deems consolidation necessary.
“We’re on the path — that’s the
important thing,” President James
Spaniolo said.
“We need this legislation and a lot of other things to
achieve our aspirations, but I am
confident that we’ll get there.
