Next week, about 45 students will load up on a charter bus traveling from UTA en
route to Denver, where they
will spend an alternative spring
break volunteering instead of
partying.
“This is better than a traditional break because there are
no hangovers,” EXCEL President Julian Russell said.
Alternative Breaks is a program where students go to
different communities during
spring break or winter break
for a week to do volunteer activities, Alternative Breaks coordinator Jeong Lee said.
Lee said her first trip was a
great experience, which is why
she applied for the coordinator
position.
The break this year is slightly different from last year, Lee
said. Last year, volunteers went
to three different states: Utah,
Ohio and Georgia. This time,
they’re all going to Colorado
where they will split into three
teams and work with three different agencies chosen by the
site leaders, Lee said.
