Imagine holding your breath
under water for as long as you can.
Right before the panic sets in, you
reach the surface and take a deep
breath.
This is the feeling that Canadian
Olympic runner Jared Connaughton gets just before a race starts.
“The anticipation is numbing,”
Connaughton said about the few
quiet moments preceding.
“Once
the gun is fired, you feel free.
”
Connaughton will once again
get a shot at that feeling when
he competes in the 2012 Summer
Games in London.
He will be competing in the 200-meter race and
4x100 relay again this time, but he
will also serve as co-captain of the
Canadian Olympic team.
In 2008,
Connaughton placed 14th in the
200-meter semifinal, and his team
placed 6th in the relay finals.
Before that, he was a student
at UTA.
