Ed Deveau has spent his life
learning how to take care of people.
He is one of 969 veterans enrolled at UTA, according to October figures from university
spokeswoman Kristin Sullivan.
As
a Marine, he served 21 years on
active duty, starting as a mechanic
and retiring a logistics officer.
“If we were dropped into the
middle of a desert, you would
need all the functions of a small
town,” he said.
“Transportation,
sanitation, plumbing, a kitchen, a
field hospital — my job would be
to coordinate all that.
”
Deveau, who retired a major
in 2007, said it wasn’t until 2003
that he considered nursing.
“I took a career assessment just
before leaving for an eight-month
deployment,” he said.
