The Undergraduate Assembly gave the university the tap it
needed Tuesday to get back in
line with state curriculum laws
— laws which Vice Provost David
Silva said the university somehow
strayed from following.
“Quitefrankly,wehavebeenout
of compliance with state law for
quite some time,” he said.
“I’ve tried
to find out how we got so far out of
whack, but I can’t do it.
”
The first of the four changes,
which the body voted on individually, was to limit core classes to
1000- and 2000-level courses.
Currently, 3000- and 4000-level
courses can be included in the core,
which Silva said does not meet the
Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s requirements.
The body also voted to replace
“Social and Cultural Studies” with
“Social and Behavioral Sciences.
