The Mavericks basketball
team advanced to the Southland Conference Tournament
semifinals by defeating
Louisiana-Monroe 77-62 at
Texas Hall on Monday.
The victory extended the
Mavs’ winning streak to a
school-record nine games and
marked the first time since
1998 that the team has made it
past the first round of the tournament.
The Mavericks overwhelmed the Indians with their
offense early in the game, scoring 56 percent from the floor,
86 percent from behind the arc
and 86 percent in free throws.
The Mavs went into the half
with a 42-22 lead.
Indians coach Mike Vining
said the Mavericks were more
athletic as a team in the first two
meetings this season and added
that it was inevitable for the
Mavs to come out on top.
It
would have been difficult for the
Indians to win three straight
against the Mavs, he said,
adding that he felt “very fortunate” to have won the first two.
