The Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools rescinded probation and reaffirmed accreditation for the university in a letter to President James Spaniolo.
The letter cited “procedural changes” within
SACS “to ensure that such a situation does not
recur.
” Spaniolo announced reception of the letter
Wednesday at a Faculty Senate meeting.
“We’re glad that the university’s reputation in
regards to the accrediting agency has been corrected,” Provost Dana Dunn said.
Due to a missed deadline for submission of the
university’s revised mission statement, SACS put
the university on a short-lived probationary status
in December 2003.
SACS initiated a May 2003 deadline for the materials, but at that time, school administrators said
they were unaware that the documents were past
due.
