Since there’s no federal law that
prohibits undocumented citizens
from enrolling in college and universities, undocumented students can
be accepted to a college or university
the same way a U.
S.
citizen can.
In 2010, there were 370 undocumented students enrolled at UTA,
according to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
An undocumented citizen is a person who
was not born in the United States or
is not a legal resident.
The Urban Institute, an organization that works to educate Americans, estimates that 65,000 undocumented students graduate from U.
S.
high schools each year.
These students are guaranteed an education in
U.
S.
public schools, but after graduation they may face legal and financial
obstacles trying to get admitted to
higher education.
