Diane Dietz hardly gets a chance to
enjoy her new crown.
Her sorority sisters
are taking turns wearing
it around the house.
Graphic design senior Dietz and business
finance senior Casey
Townsend were
crowned king and
queen at halftime of the
Lady Mavs’ game on
Saturday.
The six members of
Homecoming Court, in
their sparkling dresses
and suits, were easy to
spot among thecrowd as
they waited under the
bleachers full of screaming fans before being
presented.
Dietz wore ablack, strapless dress that
she compared to the one Jennifer Lopez
wore in Maid in Manhattan.
“I just hope I don’t trip on the red carpet,” she said before the coronation.
As the contestants walked two at a
time down the red carpet, their close
friends and family cheered loudly.
Dietz’s grandfather could not control
his tears as the atmosphere brought back
memories of his college days.
He was not alone.
