BMW began with the manufacturers Rapp Motorenwerke and Bayerische Flugzeugwerke (BFw) in Bavaria, and Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach in Thuringia. It started to manufacture automobiles in 1929 with the acquisition of Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach, and that produced Austin Sevens under license. Little by little, BMW engineers began to develop more powerful and complex cars and commenced production of the BMW 328 sports car in 1936.
