UK HealthCare at Turfland will be vital
to the health and well-being of the community
As Lexington’s first enclosed shopping
mall, Turfland Mall grew in popularity
in the 1970s and ’80s when people
would flock to the small shops, see a
movie at the twin cinema or visit the
big three anchor stores Montgomery
Ward, Grant City and McAlpin’s.
For two decades, the bustling mall
welcomed people from all over Kentucky who
viewed Turfland as the best choice for quality
and convenient shopping.
However, after struggling to steer visitors
away from Fayette Mall in the 1990s and
fickle Internet shoppers for most of the 2000s,
much of the once thriving Turfland Mall
closed its doors the summer of 2008.
