A new solar -powered charging station at ETSU has been installed for students, but few seem to be aware of it. There is a new picnic table outside of The Treehouse Snack Bar on campus, with university branding and solar panels on its umbrella. “I haven’t noticed too many people using it yet, because I don’t think people really know it’s here,” said Kathleen Moore, director of sustainability. The table, an initiative proposed by Moore andDr.MoinUddinoftheengineeringtechnology department in an attempt to “bring solar down to size,” was funded through the Campus Sustainability Fee. Thefeeisa$7chargeincludedinthetuitionof students in the spring and fall semesters, initiated by students in 2008. Funds gathered by the fee are put to use on various sustainability projects proposed by faculty, staff, and students. The requirements for a project to be accepted are that the project must decrease the university’s carbon footprint, positively impact student life and be applied on campus. A commit
