The Washington County Commission’s budget committee approved a $1 million donation to help fund the construction of a fine arts center on the ETSU campus. The budget committee became one of two committees — the other being the committee of commerce and industry — to approve the donation to the university. In order for ETSU to receive the $1 million donation, the entire commission must vote on the resolution. The commission will put the issue to a vote by the end of the month. Joe Grandy, a member of the commission’s budget committee, said the decision to donate was made in the interest of the entire region of Washington County. “Universities are crucial in improving the quality of life of the Washington County area,” Grandy said.
