Since I was born in 1970, “The Jackson 5ive” animated show aired before I was old enough to
be a fan of Saturday morning cartoons.
Forty years after it left the airwaves in 1972, it has finally been released on DVD.
The series was produced by Rankin/Bass and Motown Productions and broadcast on ABC from
Sept.
11, 1971, until October 1972.
Though I knew the show offered a light-hearted fictionalized portrayal of the careers of The
Jackson 5 Motown recording group, what I didn’t realize is that young Michael Jackson and his
brothers Marlon, Jackie, Jermaine and Tito, didn’t lend their voices to their cartoon likenesses.
“Jackson 5ive: The Complete Animated Series” became available from DreamWork Classics
Tuesday and the DVD collection is priced at $32.
