Occurrences such as the Titanic, World War One,
the Spanish influenza pandemic, and other influential events are depicted throughout the story.
Downton Abbey has received numerous awards (Golden Globes and Emmys) and has garnered
much critical acclaim since first airing in 2010.
The twenty-seven nominations it received were
the most in the history of the Primetime Emmy Awards.
Because of the exceptional acting, superb writing, realistic period costumes, and beautiful
settings, Downton Abbey has become one of the most watched television shows in the world.
The first three seasons have been released on DVD, while the fourth season is supposed to
begin filming in February of 2013.
