International Summit on Indigenous Environmental Philosophy
Indigenous environmental philosophers from around the world met at Redstone in Anadarko, Oklahoma to discuss mutual environmental concerns and two important questions:
- What distinguishes Indigenous Environmental Philosophy from Western Environmental Philosophy?
- How should Indigenous Environmental Philosophy be incorporated in the international dialogue on Climate Change?
The event was a collaborative effort of the Memnosyne Foundation, the University of North Texas Department of Philosophy and Religions, the Kiowa Environmental Program, Kiowa Nation, The Anadarko Schools Indian Education Program, SMU's Environmental Department, SMU's Human Rights Department, The Indigenous Institute of the Americas, and others.
The culmination of the event was the signing of the Redstone Document at SMU on May 1, 2010 at an event hosted by the SMU Department of Philosophy and the SMU Earth Sciences Program.
